Founded in early 2016, SepSolve Analytical offers tailored packages of analytical instrumentation and expert advice to academia, industry and government agencies, with a focus being approaches using two-dimensional gas chromatography (GC×GC).


SepSolve has seven permanent staff at its laboratories in Peterborough, UK, and also makes full use of the knowledge and expertise within other subsidiaries of Schauenburg Analytics.


SepSolve uses sample preparation equipment, robotic autosamplers, pre-concentrators, mass spectrometers and specialist software from Markes International and other leading manufacturers as the foundation for solutions specifically tailored to their customers’ needs. Its product portfolio includes:

  • INSIGHT® modulator – A robust, easy-to-use non-cryogenic approach to GC×GC separations, for research and routine applications.
  • ChromSpace® software – A software package covering multiple data formats, designed from the outset to address ease-of-use issues common in GC×GC software. ChromSpace incorporates features requested by leading GC×GC users to streamline data analysis workflows for both routine and investigative applications.
  • BenchTOF time-of-flight mass spectrometers – First developed by Markes in 2008, the innovative ion-source design of BenchTOF offered a breakthrough in sensitivity and spectral quality. Innovation continues to underpin the success of BenchTOF to this day, with its award-winning Select-eV® and Tandem Ionisation® technology making it the only mass spectrometer for GC able to record electron ionisation spectra at hard and soft energies simultaneously. Due to this, Tandem Ionisation offers a unique perspective on sample composition and perfectly complements the added dimension afforded by INSIGHT and ChromSpace.


Specialists at SepSolve have been at the forefront of expanding the application scope of GC×GC, through valued collaborations with customers in academia and industry. As a result, the technique is attracting attention in the fields of food analysis and environmental monitoring, as well as longer-established applications such as petrochemical, tobacco and fragrance analysis.
