Markes International, a specialist in sample automation and concentration technologies for gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS), has announced the availability of automated HiSorb™ high-capacity sorptive extraction on its Centri® 90 platform. Previously only available in manual form on Centri 90, HiSorb can now be operated fully automatically – delivering hands-free high-capacity sorptive extraction for trace-level analysis. This launch completes the automation of HiSorb across the full Centri platform (90, 180 and 360), expanding access to efficient, high-sensitivity extraction and enabling more laboratories to benefit from increased throughput, reproducibility, and analytical performance.
“The launch of automated HiSorb analysis on Centri 90 is a big step forward for labs looking to simplify and strengthen their GC–MS workflows,” said Paul Morris, Head of the Markes Product Group. “High-capacity sorptive extraction can now be used fully across the entire Centri platform. That means more labs can benefit from HiSorb’s proven performance for both headspace and immersive sampling, whether they’re targeting trace-level compounds or exploring complex profiles.”
High-capacity sorptive extraction with HiSorb probes is available with four sorbent-phase combinations and therefore delivers improved compound recovery and has a greater analytical range than traditional PDMS-only based sorptive extraction techniques, particularly when applied to complex samples. Its compatibility with multi-step enrichment (MSE®) and cryogen-free focusing enables detection of more compounds at lower concentrations.
Centri 90’s modular design allows existing PAL3 users to upgrade easily to automated HiSorb, adding significant sampling flexibility to established workflows. The platform also supports a range of complementary techniques, including thermal desorption, SPME and headspace sampling, all integrated within a single automated system.
Designed to integrate seamlessly with existing GC–MS systems, the Centri 90 platform combines high-capacity sorptive extraction, headspace sampling, and SPME with robust automation in a single modular front-end system. It enables laboratories to expand their analytical workflows and boost productivity – all without altering their core GC–MS instrumentation.
